PM Modi moves on 'Ease of Doing Business' with Land Law changes

Delivering on its promise to undertake more steps to facilitate ease of doing business as part of the 'Make in India' initiative, the Union Cabinet has approved Ordinance on amendments to Land Acquisition Act.

Addressing a Press conference on the issue, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that the Land Act norms will be diluted for industrial corridors, rural infrastructure, housing for poor, Defence purposes.

Emphasising on the need for amendments to Land Acquisition Act, he said that there is need to strike balance between farmers' interest and industrial growth.

Earlier in the day, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley addressed a Make in India national workshop on ease of doing business in India.

The focus of the workshop is to push manufacturing as part of the 'Make in India' programme. Government and industry leaders will make collective presentations. A separate session will be conducted with State Chief Secretaries and principal industry secretaries on improving ease of doing business.

In order to attract foreign investment and make India a global manufacturing hub, PM Modi had launched the ‘Make in India’ campaign in September, 14.
