Smriti Irani rubbishes Times of India report on Christmas Day Schools

Media it seems has vowed to go against Human Resources Department Minister Smriti Irani deliberately. Now, the Times of India – wrongly reported that the Minister has plans to derail Christmas celebrations by asking Central Government run schools to celebrate former Prime Minister AB Vajpayee's birthday as Good Governance Day.

The news report states that HRD Ministry wants AB Vajpayee's birthday and Hindu Mahasabha leader Madan Mohan Malviya by observing ‘good governance day' on December 25,2014. The BJP Government wants CBSE to carry out various activities, like an essay competition, so that students' participation increases.

The Times of India which claims to one of the leading newspapers in the country has mislead the people by reporting such lies. It says that the Central Government run Navodaya Vidyalays had issued a circular to their schools stating that the CBSE will be organising an essay competition on December 24 and 25 (2014) respectively, the topics for which will be declared on December 23, 2014.

The essay competition will be held separately for standards I-V, standards VI-VIII and standards IX-X. Navodaya commissioner GS Bothyal has asked schools to conduct quiz competitions, screen documentaries on best practices in good governance and perform other related activities on Christmas.

However, the Minister rubbished the false reportage by the Times of India. She also appealed to the Times of India to at least confirm with her before publishing such misleading reports. This is not the first time that main stream media has gone against Smriti Irani, earlier too the media has tried to tarnish her image by misreporting about her work.

It is time that the media releases its responsibilities and check its facts before publishing such facts.

Moreover, this immature and irresponsible behaviour only shows that media is not interested in reporting the facts but is hellbent on baiting Smriti Irani in what is increasingly turning out to be a lynch mob attitude of media towards her.
