Modi leans on Facebook to draw more tourists

In his efforts to synergize social media with governance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants Facebook's co-operation to improve communication between people and government and to bring more tourists to India.

Modi announced this in his latest Facebook status update on Thursday, after a meeting with Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg — known widely for her book "Lean In" — who is currently on an India tour.

"Being an avid user of social media myself, I talked about ways through which a platform such as Facebook can be used for governance and better interaction between the people and governments. I also talked about how Facebook can be used to bring more tourists to India," wrote Modi on his Facebook page.

Both the Prime Minister and Sandberg updated their Facebook pages on Thursday, posting group pictures and writing about the finer points they discussed. Sandberg's post had nearly 2,500 likes, while Modi's got over 67,000 likes and over 2,000 comments.
