East Champaran elated over Radha Mohan's induction in Modi cabinet

With the induction of BJP MP from Purvi Champaran Radha Mohan Singh as cabinet minister with agriculture portfolio, the residents of East Champaran district are very happy as he happens to be the only Lok Sabha member of the party to find a place in the Narendra Modi cabinet. The BJP had bagged 22 out of the 40 Lok Sabha seats of Bihar while its allies LJP and RLSP won six and three seats respectively.

As the news of Radha Mohan Singh's swearing in as a cabinet minister reached Motihari, residents were seen in large numbers discussing it. The BJP activists were seen greeting each other. At the district BJP office located at Gandhi complex, party office-bearers and workers were distributing sweets to visitors. It was a Diwali-like atmosphere at the BJP office. After all, an MP from the district had become a cabinet minister in the Centre for the first time.

Throughout the day, people remained glued to their TV sets and exchanged updates through cellphones. Earlier, the news spread that Singh was being appointed Union minister of state in the Modi cabinet, but when news of his getting cabinet berth reached here, the locals were jubilant.

The residents of Narha-Panapur village, nestled in the eastern corner of East Champaran where Singh was born, appeared emotional as their fellow villager had made not only his village but the whole district proud. Bhola Singh, a retired school teacher who was Singh's classmate during his primary and high school days at his village, said Radha Mohan started social works in his village even in school.

And after coming into active politics, he made efforts to get a DAV branch at his village. He spared no effort in getting a hospital, community hall and telephone exchange in his village besides ensuring potable drinking water facilities. This village is now accessible through pucca roads on the borders of Muzaffarpur and Sheohar districts. His younger brother, Haribilash Singh, a sub postmaster, who never tires of narrating his brother's selfless service, said his brother has been rewarded for his social works.
