Amit Shah eyes local body polls in Uttar Pradesh

After wresting Uttar Pradesh in the recent Lok Sabha pollsBJP general secretary Amit Shah has again got down to chart a rerun for the party's success in the 2017 assembly polls in the state and crucial to the strategy is the decision to contest the panchayat elections due next year.

The three-tier panchayat polls are due to be held between May-October 2015 and Shah has asked his key lieutenants to start the exercise for panchayat elections immediately.

Shah has told key aides including general secretary, BJP-UP, Sunil Bansal that the impact of a victory in the panchayat polls would hold more significance in the assembly polls as the issues for these polls would be local rather than national issues.

State BJP president Laxmikant Bajpai said "it has been decided that the BJP will contest both the panchayat as well as cooperative body polls."
