BJP TAKES OUT ‘ONION PROTEST MARCH’ TO CM HOUSE
CONGRESS GOVT. HAS MISMANAGED ONION CRISIS :  GOEL
DELHI GOVT. TURNS BLIND EYE TO PEOPLE’S WOES

New Delhi, August, 14:  Exposing the inaction and mismanagement of the Congress government and its subsequent failure to check unabated rise in prices of onions and other essential commodities, the Delhi BJP today staged a massive protest at Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s residence.

The Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel, along with senior party leaders including former Delhi BJP President Dr. Harshavardhan and former mayor Arti Mehra, BJP general secretaries Shikha Rai and Jai Prakash led a huge protest march up to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s residence demanding immediate steps to bring down prices of onions and other vegetables in Delhi.

The Protest March’ started from BJP headquarters at 11, Ashoka Road in New Delhi.  Addressing a large gathering of the party cadres, sympathizers and common people from all sections of the society, Shri Goel said that the Congress government has mismanaged the onion crisis completely.  The prcies of onions have already reached around Rs. 80 per Kg and in all likelihood, they could touch RS 100 in coming weeks.

“The Congress government has failed to ensure adequate supply and distribution of onion and all the other vegetables in the city causing great distress to each and every household of Delhi,” he added.

“While there has been some dip in production in the country, the recent flight of prices of onions is  largely due to mismanagement by the Congress government, which has turned a blind eye to people’s woes,” said Shri Goel while the protesters raised slogans against the Chief Minister for letting the prices break new records every day in the city.

Former Delhi BJP President Dr. Harshavardhan said, "The wholesale markets in Delhi are governed by the government, but it has done nothing to ensure enough supply of onions to the city markets and thereby check skyrocketing prices of the vegetable. This is an insensitive government which is not bothered about the hardships faced by the common people. The people of Delhi are fed up with the complete absence of governance."

Addressing the protesters, former Delhi Mayor Aarti Mehra said, "People of Delhi are already facing lots of hardship due to increase in prices of electricity, water, pulses, food-grains and other commodities of household daily use. It is estimated that an average household budget in Delhi has gone up by 40% during the past one year itself. The onions are now proving to be proverbial last straw on the camel’s back."

Delhi BJP general secretary Smt. Shika Rai said, "It is yet another example of the Congress government giving excuse of helplessness after a crisis has blown up affecting every household in the city. Ironically when people are suffering due to high onion prices, instead of augmenting the supply the Congress led UPA government has allowed export of more than 5 lakh tones onion from April-June this year. The Congress government of Delhi did not intervene at all. And now when the people have started suffering, it has started making cosmetic gestures which are of no use in terms of providing relief to the common people."
